Mount Tai has been a place of worship and imperial ceremony for more than two thousand years. Its natural slopes are also a cultural landscape, marked by temples, gateways and inscriptions. The mountain’s significance grew through repeated journeys and the words people left behind.

Look at the contrast between a built edge and a rough rock face. Each gives the other a different scale. Even a single photograph can suggest how people made meaning within this landscape.
