Sanqingshan’s scenery grows from granite shaped into a remarkable variety of peaks and pillars. Forest and changing atmospheric conditions soften the stone, while narrow formations stand out against the sky. The mountain’s World Heritage recognition centres on this distinctive natural beauty.

Try describing one outline without naming what it resembles. Then allow yourself an imaginative comparison. Both ways of looking can reveal details you missed when you first saw the wider view.
