A PLACE, A STORY / Shanghai
The Bund
Historic riverfront buildings tell Shanghai’s trading story. Look closer at a window, a roofline or a reflection along the Huangpu.

A walk along the Bund can begin with a small question: which building would you sketch first? Beside the Huangpu River stand historic buildings that once housed banks and trading companies. Their columns, windows and rooflines leave traces of Shanghai’s commercial past.
Give the skyline a moment, then turn back to the details at street level. You and a friend might each choose a different shape and explain what caught your eye. There is no need to cover the whole waterfront. A short stretch, an unfinished conversation and a reason to return can be enough for a someday plan.
