Dazhao Temple was established in Hohhot during the Ming dynasty under Altan Khan. It belongs to the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and is particularly associated with a silver Buddha statue. The temple’s buildings make a useful starting point for noticing the connections between religious practice and architectural form.
