Central Street

Harbin’s historic shopping street began in 1898. Its varied façades turn a walk into a sequence of architectural details.

Central Street, or Zhongyang Dajie, grew with Harbin’s commercial development from 1898. Its historic buildings preserve a mix of architectural influences, and the stone paving gives the street a distinctive surface beneath those façades. The route offers many small subjects beyond a single landmark view.

Look upward at windows and cornices, then down at the rhythm of the paving. Ask a friend to choose one detail they would remember, and compare it with your own.
