Dujiangyan’s story is about directing water with the landscape. Its embankments and channels form a system developed more than two thousand years ago to manage river flow and supply the Chengdu Plain. The engineering becomes more approachable when you follow one visible current instead of trying to understand everything at once. Compare where the water divides and where it gathers again. A conversation about rivers can begin with a simple question: which way is this water going?
